Seasonal Care for Optimum Health

As the seasons change, it's a must to check your tree care checklist to keep you foliage healthy. Follow McCracken Tree Service's tips to keep your foliage health all year long.

Fall

When fall arrives, the trees are dressing up in their bright colors briefly, only to lose their leaves and go dormant for the winter months. They are busy storing energy in their roots to sustain them through the long winter months and give them a boost of energy to bud out once again in the spring.

During periods of substantial amounts of rain, many of the trees reap the benefits of the copious moisture. However, in these cases, fungi, unfortunately, will have a great season. If this is the first season you have noticed blemishes on leaves, it is most likely from a one-time outbreak of fungi.

While you are admiring the fall foliage, inspect your trees for dead and diseased wood. Arborists work year-round to keep trees safe and healthy. If you need an arborist's service in the fall, please be patient and persistent. He or she will get back to you as soon as possible.

Summer

The greatest threat to trees in late summer is the lack of water. The trees which are at the most risk include newly planted trees (within the last year), trees that are under stress from root damage or insect or disease damage, or older trees.

Mulch around the base of these trees so that water can get to the roots more easily. Place a soaker hose around the root area, and turn it on until the root zone is soaked, two or three times a week. It is also time to begin thinking about planting or transplanted trees and shrubs.
